Read Through the Bible in a Year “Your WORD is a lamp that gives light wherever I walk.” (Psalm 119: 105) Choose a Bible that is easy to read; preferably with some notes and explanations to help your reading. Begin each new book by reading the summary or overview of the material contained in that book. Pattern in this guide During the course of each week, these readings will take you through seven different parts of the Bible: 1. Torah (from the first five books of the Bible given to Moses) 2. Prophets (the messages given by God to different spokespersons) 3. Writings (history and stories) 4. Gospels (the first four books of the New Testament) and Acts (the beginning of the Christian Church) 5. Epistles (the letters written to young churches and to some individuals) and Revelation (the image of heaven given to John) 6. Psalms (the hymnbook of the Hebrews) 7. Proverbs (sayings and advice) You may wish to keep a journal with your reactions, insights and questions. Ask God to inspire your reading. Share your ideas and reactions with others. Although you may not understand every section, keep going. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers. Let us encourage each other to keep reading and to grow in God’s word.
