The Mission Trust Fund A way to continue to provide funds to Missions... Some years ago, Gertrude Matthes left a considerable amount of money to help expand the programs of the Center Harbor Congregational Church. In 1996, our church, with its faith in missions, decided to set aside some of these funds to create a Mission Trust Fund, with the purpose of increasing mission giving. The Trust Document was established, and it provides that the principal and interest is to remain in the Mission Trust except that each year, up to 5% of the total value of the Trust may be used to provide grants and matching funds for qualifying mission projects. Some projects include: Habitat for Humanity, Neighbors in Need, and Blankets and Tools of Hope. The income from the interest of the Trust Fund proportionally matches gifts given by the members of the congregation. Gifts, memorials, and bequests may be designated towards the principal of the Trust, and will be invested by the trustees to maximize income with a high degree of safety. February's "Mission of the Month" is an appeal to make offerings to the Mission Trust Fund, although you may donate to it at any time. The objective is to build up the fund principal. You may do so by making out your check to the “Center Harbor Congregational Church,” and indicating on the memo line of your check: “The Mission Trust Fund.” The advantage of this Trust is that it enables funds to be more permanent, by contributing greater income to provide mission giving now and in the future. This fund will continue on and on as the principal grows and as our church continues to grow and expand its work. TO BE LIKE CHRIST: Paul in his letter to the Philippians: “Do nothing from selfishness but with humility of mind, regard one another as more important than yourself…Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but for the interests of others!” Mission-giving is another opportunity to serve the needs of our neighbors, friends, and others. Your gifts will strengthen and encourage the Church to greater mission giving. Gifts of any size are pleasing to God when they are given out of gratitude, as well as a spirit of generosity, with a mission common to all believers: to love, to obey, and to serve God. I urge you to consider giving to the Mission Trust Fund. |
